Ceramic vase upcycle

Earthy toned, neutral ceramic vases are all the rage these days. They are everywhere you look. EV.RE.WHERE.

Now don’t get us wrong, we’re all about keeping our homes looking top notch, but if there’s something we can make instead of buy, well then we’ll give it a shot!

I had a few vases around the house; in the storage room and shed that I still loved enough to keep but didn’t really fit with any of the rooms. So they were perfect candidates for this little upcycle.

What I needed:

  • Paint

  • Baking soda

  • Paint container

  • Paintbrush

  • Vases

  • Surface cover

What I did:

  1. I put some paper on my table to avoid getting paint stains (this has happened plenty of times before…enthusiasm always gets the better of me!)

  2. Pour some paint into your container. The paint I went for was Soothing Beige, a silk matte by Jotun.

  3. Stir in a couple of spoons of baking soda. You can judge as you go. Decide yourself how gritty you want it to be.

  4. Off you go. Paint it on thinly so you don’t get drips and dribbles. Vary your strokes going up, down, side to side. You want to create a messy effect.

  5. Leave to dry overnight. Paint at least one more coat.

  6. Style and admire.

Go on, give it a go, you’ll be delighted with yourself!
